Design natural gas conditioning system during bid phase of projects for a number of industrial applications for power and chemical plants; involved in quotation stage for natural gas conditioning system designs including reviewing customer specifications; determining the application and the exact scope of supply of natural gas conditioning system based on the specifications; reviewing project scope with project management and engineering teams, and determining best optimized designs for project which will offer value-added benefits and/or reduce cost; performing flow, mass and heat transfer calculations for the natural gas conditioning sub-systems (the coalescing filters, scrubbers, meters, line/dewpoint heaters, performance heaters and regulating stations) to determine optimum vessel sizes and pipe sizes, in compliance with customer requirements as well as relevant ASME, API, NFPA, NACE codes and standards; determining required valve sizing based on flow calculations performed to determine pipe sizes required for individual sub-systems; developing piping and instrumentation diagrams and applicable equipment specification sheets, detailing the scope of supply for the project; incorporating required instrumentation for the systems, and at the same time, optimizing the instrumentation scope, dependent on the project scope and relevant codes/standards requirements; working with project management, engineering and production teams to determine equipment and labor costs for the project; working with outside vendors to perform sizing calculations and obtain pricing and lead time of the required pressure vessels, piping and piping components (pipes, valves, flanges, various fittings), instrumentation (e.g. gauges, transmitters, switches, etc.) and equipment (flow meters, gas chromatographs, electric heating elements, natural gas fired burners, regulators, filter and scrubber elements); drafting proposal and developing costing spreadsheet for the bid; reviewing the final bid with sales team and management before submitting the bid to the customer; design synthetic natural gas systems during the bid phase of projects for a number of industrial applications to supplement or substitute natural gas; involved in quotation stage for SNG based systems designs including reviewing customer system requirements; determining required system capacity from heat duty, flow rate, desired SNG pressure and LPG composition, while de-rating/adjusting for altitude and heavy hydrocarbon content if present; reviewing project scope with project management and engineering teams; based on system capacity, determine preliminary sizes of LPG TTU systems, LPG forwarding pumps, LPG storage tanks, LPG vaporizers and/or LPG-air blending systems as per customer system requirements; design TTU system, based on flow rate of LPG (determining pipe sizes based on flow rate, incorporating required piping components and instrumentation for proper operation of the TTU system); based on required storage capacity stated in PDRS, design storage tank with relevant valves and instrumentation for proper operation; in cases where tank is procured by customer (outside Aether scope of supply), work with customer to determine tank sizes and instrumentation scope of supply; size pumps in forwarding pump system, by reviewing flow rate and pressure required for system and comparing with pump curves; design LPG vaporizers based on LPG flow rate and discharge pressure at pump skid outlet – the type of vaporizer (electric, waterbath or steam vaporizer), its design optimization and thermal calculations are based on customer requirements of SNG capacity and pressure; based on SNG pressure and capacity required, determine blending system to be utilized; work with internal project management, engineering and production teams to determine costs of fabrication, materials and labor for various Aether standard products.
Requires Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering and two years of experience in job offered or as Sales Engineer and/or Application Engineer; or Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience. Background in education, training or experience must include reviewing customer specifications; performing flow, mass and heat transfer calculations; determining required heat exchanger sizing; working with project management, engineering and production teams to determine equipment, testing, material and labor costs for the project; working with outside vendors to obtain pricing and lead time of the required piping and piping components (pipes, valves, flanges, various fittings), fans and motors; drafting proposal and developing costing spreadsheet for the bid.
